The visa process for foreigners arriving in Nepal typically involves obtaining a tourist visa or other relevant visa type before or upon arrival. Here’s an overview:

Tourist Visa on Arrival

Most foreigners can obtain a tourist visa upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu or at land borders. However, it’s always good to check the latest requirements as they can change.

Visa on Arrival is available for nationals of many countries, including the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, and most European countries.

Nationals of following countries are requested to acquire Visa prior their arrival from their nearby Diplomatic missions (Embassies/consulates) of Nepal Government.

  • Nigeria
  • Ghana
  • Zimbabwe
  • Swaziland
  • Cameroon
  • Somalia
  • Refugees with travel document

  • Liberia
  • Ethiopia
  • Iraq
  • Palestine
  • Afghanistan
  • Syria

Applicants need to fill out a visa application form available at the airport or border entry points.

Required documents usually include a passport with at least six months validity, a recent passport-sized photograph, and the visa fee in cash (USD, EUR, GBP, or NPR).

The visa fee depends on the duration of stay: 15 days, 30 days, or 90 days.

On Arrival Visa Fee at Entry Points

15 Days – 30 USD

30 Days – 50 USD

90 Days – 125 USD

Visa extension is possible within Nepal if needed.

Visa Application in Advance

Foreigners also have the option to obtain a required visa from Nepali embassies or consulates in their home country or neighboring countries before traveling to Nepal.

This option can be convenient for those who prefer to have their visa arranged before arrival or for those who don’t qualify for visa on arrival.

Application requirements may vary slightly depending on the embassy or consulate, so it’s advisable to check their specific requirements and processing times.

Other Visa Types:

Besides tourist visas, Nepal offers other types of visas such as business visas, student visas, and diplomatic visas. The application process for these visas may differ, and specific requirements and supporting documents may be needed.

Important Notes:

It is essential for travelers to ensure their passport has at least six months’ validity from the date of entry into Nepal and has blank visa pages.

Travelers should also be aware of any entry requirements related to health, vaccinations, or COVID-19 protocols, which may vary depending on the current situation and regulations.
